Acupuncture & IVF: Fertility Discovery

IVF

Garden Acupuncture shares a new fertility discovery of how acupuncture improves IVF success rates as well as live births.

A new study has just concluded that women receiving Acupuncture improve both the pregnancy and live birth rates for those using in vitro fertilization and embryo transplantation (IVF-ET). While completing the research, scientists discovered a biochemical mechanism that allows Acupuncture to enhance fertility. Additionally, the researchers compared successful IVF-ET rates with Chinese medicine differential diagnoses and made an interesting discovery.

Biochemical Discovery

The researchers found that Electro-Acupuncture increases blood levels of HLA-G (human leukocyte antigen). HLA-G is a protein, which is predictive of higher pregnancy and live birth according to another modern study completed by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sunnybrook College in Toronto, Canada. These increased levels of HLA-G were found in the embryos of the patients in the process of IVF-ET.

Chinese Medicine Diagnostics

The researchers based their evaluations using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnostic language. TCM being a medicine, that is 5,000 years old still uses simplistic language to explain what is going on in the human body. This does not mean that the information is irrelevant, just that Western science and its complicated language were not discovered at that time. For this study, the groups were determined by the following:

82 people diagnosed with Kidney Deficiency

74 people diagnosed with Liver-Qi Stagnation

54 people diagnosed with Phelgm-Dampness

It was concluded that the HLA-G levels were significantly higher during the embryo transplantation and all three groups had similar improvements in fertilization and pregnancy rates as a result of the Electro-Acupuncture.  The researchers concluded that, due to Electro-Acupuncture, “the pregnancy outcome and the pregnancy rate are improved.”
